Out of the clutter and messiness of the everyday, a photograph can capture the world with exact precision. It can heighten our senses and provoke a sharpness of mind.

We categorize kinds of images into genres. These genres frame subject matter, inform techniques, and motivate purposes. Genres are not rigid categories. Instead, they represent starting points for image makers and viewers, reflecting photography's inherently adaptive and transformative essence.

In the Sharp Ideas zine series, in episodic form, we consider this ongoing process of definition and redefinition, bringing together contemporary image-makers in conversation as they reflect current trends and push the boundaries of genres.
